A bit of history
Born in Ghent in 1500, Charles V remains one of the great figures of European history
Heir to the houses of Burgundy, Habsburg, Spain and the Holy Roman Empire, he reigned over a vast territory of which it was said "the sun never set". Brussels held a central place in his journey: it was in the former Burgundian Netherlands that he grew up, governed, and affirmed his attachment to our regions.
In 1549, the Grand Place of Brussels hosted a prestigious celebration in his honour. This magnificent moment, still remembered in Brussels today, inspires the spirit of our house: the richness of our heritage, a taste for great traditions, and the conviviality of Brussels tables.
